He was completely taken by surprise. It never occurred to him that Sharmeen would draw such a conclusion. He looked at her with disbelief. The miscommunication has reached a new high and now things were going completely out of hand. Sharmeen sat there at the corner of the room. Her tear soaked eyes made her look more adorable. Iqbal wanted to hug her and sort things out. But Sharmeen had already started having doubts.
" Sharmeen believe me, it's not what you think", pleaded Iqbal. "You are making a mountain out of a molehill. This is just too much." "Yes. I am at fault right ?", Sharmeen responded rhetorically. "You showed it to me and now you are denying it completely. Even after that it's my fault isn't it Iqbal ?".
Iqbal shook his head. This was the worst fight they had in their 8 year old relationship and he had never felt so helpless. He searched his pockets for a smoke but found nothing but an empty match box. Sharmeen suddenly got up. "I am leaving Iqbal". The sense of finality in her voice made Iqbal shiver. He had never imagined his life without Sharmeen and this time he felt his voice quivering. Standing up, he wiped the tears off Sharmeen's face." Sharmeen, why are you doing like this ? Don't you trust me ? Why will I cheat on you ? On us ?". Iqbal couldn't hold back his tears. "Yes Iqbal. I have always trusted you. I still do provided you show me the ring". " Believe me Sharmeen, I bought it for...". "Stop it Iqbal. Please stop it !" the anger was slowly building within her. "If you had really bought it for Ammi why didn't you tell me that day ? You saw how happy I was ? Didn't you ?". "Sharmeen," Iqbal found his voice rising, " I told you that day. It's just that the connection was very poor. I told you...". "Why didn't you tell me after that ? We have been together for 5 days now, why didn't you tell me ? All this while I have been thinking that you will go down on your knees and propose. But..." Sharmeen broke down. " How would I know Sharmeen that you didn't hear me properly ? You could have asked me ? Why didn't you ? And why will I buy it for any girl other than you....".
Iqbal was interrupted by his ringtone. Though he was reluctant to take the call the unknown number made him pick it up. " Hello ? Iqbal Mohammed ? Good Afternoon Sir. I am calling from Airtel. Will you be interested in our new 4G plan ?. We guarantee you the best connectivity anywhere and everywhere". Iqbal sighed.
